John Lewis of Hungerford are specialists in designing, kitchens and cabinetry for around the home. Every piece is carefully crafted by hand, in England, just as it was when our founder took his first order – a Welsh dresser – in 1972.
John always delighted in using his natural love for great design to create the most beautiful spaces. Marrying a design’s style and practicality with how it makes you feel continues to be a cornerstone of our work.

Call us or come to a showroom to see our award-winning kitchens and bedrooms up-close, meet our designers, and share your design vision. Or we can come to you.
Please have the basic measurements of your room ready. They can be architect’s drawings, builder’s plans or a quick hand-drawn sketch.
See your designs for the first time
60+ mins approximately, depending on the number of revisions
Within a week, 3D full-colour visuals of your brand new project will be ready. We will invite you back in to go through them and any finishing touches.
Your designer will arrange a site survey to draw up the specifications for complete accuracy.
Your kitchen will then be made

Installing your unique project ourselves is important to keep things perfect. We are the first national kitchen retailer to have achieved membership to the government-approved British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installers. PS. Congratulations on your stunning new space!
Timings may vary on occasion, because each commission is unique.
• John Lewis launches his business in 1972 in Hungerford, Berkshire. He takes his first order, a Welsh dresser for £97.50.
• Three years later he signs the lease on a new showroom on Hungerford High Street.
• He goes on to get a much larger workshop too, in Oxfordshire.

1980s
• In 1983 we introduce our first Shaker collection, the Edwardian Kitchen.
• We get a stand at the 1987 Interior Design International exhibition where Liberty of London asks John to open a showroom in their world-famous Regent Street department store.
• He says ‘yes’.

1990s
• 1990 brings a collapse in the building trade. We survive by making tables for McDonalds.
• 1997: John Lewis of Hungerford becomes a public company.
• Our kitchen collections expands to include a new Shaker range, and the ultra-sleek Urban.

2000s
• Two new launches: our retro-style Crème de la Crème kitchen, which goes on to become a design classic, plus our own exclusive paint range.
• 2004: Liberty is under new ownership and our showroom there closes.
• To stay in London, we open our largest showroom in Fulham. It becomes our flagship.

2010s
• The doors of our Grade II-listed Beaconsfield showroom open. Our house paint collection achieves the highest durability rating by SATRA Technology Centre, certifying our kitchens for ‘severe use.’
• We launch our Pure kitchen design with handleless doors and solid blocks of colour.
• It wins Best Luxury Kitchen at the 2014 House Beautiful Awards
